This Weekend in Chicago: 3/3

This upcoming weekend has a pretty fun mix of events at Chicago's favorite clubs and venues. For the uninitiated, Chicago is spoiled in the when it comes to music focused dance clubs; with Primary Nightclub in Oldtown, Smartbar in Wrigleyville; Sound-Bar and its neighbor, Spybar, in River North. West Loop is home to TheMid. In Wicker Park, Annex Nightclub is by far the standout with Concord Music Hall a 2 minute Uber ride northwest. This weekend has some monster acts coming to town including Tchami, Green Velvet, Sirius Hood, and TrollPhace. We didn't have any mix submissions to get the weekend started off right, so I'm just going to shamelessly plug my latest installment of State Dependent Learning. Go ahead and hit play, then read up on what this weekend holds in store for you. Sidenote: If you're playing somewhere in Chicago this weekend at a venue I haven't covered or would like to submit a mix for consideration in next week's post, please reach out to our PR team at

Friday holds an all-local night in store for patrons of Spybar. One of Onlythebeat's top picks for 2017, RJ Pickens will be playing back to back with Romasoul, with support by Jordan Bradey vs Cinna, No Sl33p vs Richie Olivio, and Ian Oliver vs Happyghost. For the Drum and Bass crowd, Sigma will be making their Chicago debut at Sound-Bar. Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie aka Sigma, have been making their presence felt on the drum and bass scene since 2007. From early releases on labels such as Charge and Viper Recordings, to the seminal All Blue on Zinc's Bingo imprint (one of DNBA's most downloaded tracks ever), the boys stepped up to the big time with serious dancefloor killers Paint It Black and the anthem El Presidente VIP. Party: Sigma (dj set) at Sound-Bar Chicago Location: 226 W Ontario St Headline Act: Sigma Doors: 21+ | Dress to Impress Tickets: here More Info: Facebook Event

Concord Music Hall

TrollPhace, aka Damon Orienti, has quickly established himself as one of the filthiest and most violent producers in the game. Too complex to be qualified simply as Dubstep, his evil and aggressive sound makes run-of-the-mill bass music appear mild-mannered at worst. Proving to be a momentous year, in 2014 the Atlanta-based producer has already enjoyed: a Reddit shoutout from Skrillex, who instructed fans to, "Check out this kid...making SICK tunes", a Main Stage appearance at Ultra Music Festival alongside Diplo and Skrillex as Jack U and an OWSLA release. Not to mention the attention TrollPhace has received from some of the industry's heaviest hitters including 12th Planet, Zed's Dead and Datsik. Party: TrollPhace - Black Label Tour Location: Headline Act: TrollPhace Support By: Skism, Trampa, Dogma Doors: BAG/COAT CHECK $4 | 8:00PM | 18+ Tickets: $15 - $20

Primary Nightclub

Like Spybar, Primary is hosting an all-local night on Friday with one of my all-time favorite local selectors, Inphinity. I've been a fan of Inphinity's since I was a teenager and I still catch his sets whenever I can. This Friday, he'll be sharing the decks with Phil Rizzo, Dangerwayne, and a birthday set by Luis Baro. Party: Groovement Presents: Inphinity Location: 5W Divison St. Headline Act: Inphinity Support By: Phil Rizzo, Dangerwayne, Luis Baro Doors: 10PM | 21+ Tickets: Free entry before midnight, tickets available here. Annex Nightclub

For the Techno heads out there, the Afterlife crew has put together a special treat. This guy has been one of our underground favorites over the past few years and we're happy to welcome him to Chicago! Party: Afterlife: D-Unity Location: 1958 W North Ave Headline Act: D-Unity Support By: Kings Of Class b2b NikhoDBOTSaladinBlu 9Below&Nowhere Doors: 10PM - 5AM | No dress code | 21+ Tickets: $5-10 on Afterlife's website More Info:Facebook Event Page

Tchami is what got me back into electronic music in 2014. Dude more or less invented the whole Future House movement and hasn't looked back since. Joining him will be Dogma, OTB's #1 pick as Chicago local to look out for in 2017. This will be one for the books. First two tiers of tickets are already sold out so if you're going, better get on that right now. Party: The MID & React Presents TCHAMI Location: 306 N Halsted St Headline Act: Tchami Support By: Nebbra, Nathan Scott, Orville Kline, Dogma Doors: 10PM - 5AM | 21+ Tickets: $20-30 at Ticketfly More Info: Facebook Event Page

To the point now Sirus Hood is a French artist who grew up in Paris. From the age of 10 years old when older friends would pass him mixtapes recorded in underground clubs of the time, he imagined an amazing world, dark but with flashing colours. With a REAL name like Robotti, it may seem obvious that you’re set for a life working in a synthesizer factory or in Artificial Intelligence... If you didn't get the chance to see Inphinity spin on Friday at Primary, this will be your second chance. Party: SIRUS HOOD + SACHA ROBOTTI: NORTH AMERICAN TOUR 2017 Location: 646 N. Franklin (between Ontario and Erie) Headline Act: Sirius Hood & Sacha Robotti Support By: Inphinity, No:Sl33p Doors: 10pm-5am | 21+ | parking/valet available Tickets: $10 here More Info:Facebook Event Page
