Wednesday Wrap Up: Six Tracks to Get You Over the Hump

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Do you spend a lot of time pouring through your SoundCloud stream, sifting through dozens of tracks from your curated subscriptions, only to find you don't like the majority of what you're listening to? Yeah, me too. That's why I've selected my absolute favorites that I have come across over this Fall to satisfy your craving for funky music. I've also included the source mixes for several of those tracks should you want to investigate further. Okay, that's it. Dive in.

The Knocks feat. Alex Newell - Collect My Love (Lenno Remix)

Listening to Lenno's Summer mix for Axtone Records, a few tracks caught my ear, but one stood out. There was something particularly funky about this one, but don't let that stop you from listening to the exclusive mix here.

Sailor & I - Fire On The Moon (Original Mix)

A fantastically, overwhelming track you can enjoy at practically every hour of the day. Excellent desk music; equally excellent 3 AM Uber ride soundtrack. Takes you to a dark, sweaty, warehouse somewhere in Bushwick where clear bright lights are a concept unfamiliar to the environment but changing shades of dark red, purple and green are to be expected.

Vlad Lucan - Reverse (Free Download)

Recently released on Axtone and first played by Steve Angello on Radio 1 for the September episode of his monthly BBC Radio1 residency, the melodically layered prog-step track, if you will, is highly anticipated and has been played out by major names like Don Diablo and Nicky Romero.

Michael Woods feat. Andrea Martin - Sleep (No Mana Extended Remix)

I found this little number bumping deadmau5's regular residency at Beats 1 Radio Mau5trap Presents Episode 003, which also features a guest mix by the up-and-coming DJ himself. As deadmau5's infamous 'Ghosts 'n Stuff' was one of the signature tracks which launched me into the fascinating world of dance music, No Mana's sound particularly excites me because of the similar level of excellence his craft takes when it comes to constructing flawless electro-progressive.

Hellberg - The Girl (Martell Remix)

By far my favorite progressive house release in the last few months, Martell's touch on fellow Swede Hellberg's "The Girl" adds an extra amount of happy-go-lucky to the already energetic track. Martell has been steadily building a strong following and churning out releases every couple months, with his latest track "Take Me Home" released just last month!

David Pietras - Opia (Original Mix)

Featured as one of the closing tracks on Steve Angello's Radio1 residency last month, this simple yet provoking piece of music immediately spoke to me when I first heard it. Following a basic chord structure, producer David Pietras builds upon that structure over and over again, adding orchestral elements and drums on top of each other in a very Prydz-like manner. We like. Out now on Marcus Schössow's label Code Red. Writer's Note: Podcasts and live sets are an amazing way to bring energy to what sometimes can be a brutally mundane day at the ole' office, while enabling you to discover songs your favorite DJs are into.
