Former ‘Thee Cool Cats’ member, Gerry Gonza from Arizona, has an impressive history of music releases, and for good reason.  His tracks can be found on a variety of major house labels including Nervous Recs, Toolroom, and Confessions, with his latest original, ‘54 Chevy’, coming out on Perfect Driver’s ‘Swerve Vol.3’ on December 9th.  What sets ‘54 Chevy’ from the rest is his flawless incorporation of multiple genres and skillfully planned fx into a well-rounded cohesive club banger.  This baseline heavy track masterfully carves out sounds in your eardrums while shifting gears into a breaks drop, locking you into your seat. You can listen to the full track here: Only The Beat: Where did the vocal sample come from? Gerry Gonza: I made the vocal when I was exploring production techniques and sounds in Trap music. After working on the Trap track idea though, I felt it was meant for something else. Only The Beat:You incorporated house and breaks into this song seamlessly. If the song continued to a third drop what genre would you put in that space? Gerry Gonza: I’d hit the track with soulful chords to build up into a heavy Techno drop. Only The Beat:Would you say that you are a 'thriftmaster' when it comes to finding the perfect background sounds & fx to enhance this track? Gerry Gonza: I’d say I’m a thriftmaster in production, period. Only The Beat: What makes this song a perfect addition to Perfect Driver’s ‘Swerve’ release? Gerry Gonza: The groove! It’s the reason why every track in the compilation is great. You could DJ the compilation top to bottom and the groove will never leave the building. Only The Beat: Does this track pass the 54’ Chevy car mastering test? Gerry Gonza: It definitely bumps in the 54 Chevy and 64 Impala.
