Last Sunday the Fool's Gold Day Off Tour took Miami by storm. With freebies and special guests, I would definitely recommend buying a ticket to the last stop which will be held on September 19th in Austin, Texas.
Strategically held in Wynwood, one of Miami's most cultured neighborhoods, this day long festival was somewhat reminiscent of Mad Decent Block Party
. With a street party vibe and local food trucks, I felt very enmeshed in the authentic Miami lifestyle. It was a great change of pace from Miami's heavily tourist and teeny-bopper based crowd, especially within the EDM scene. It was apparent that almost everyone in the crowd was a local, and everyone was really happy to be taking their Sunday off and spending it with great artists like A-Trak
, Alison Wonderland
My only criticism was the way that the event organized their set times. Some artists like A-Trak
, only had 20 minute long sets. No set besides the closer, Flosstradamus
, was equivalent to an hour. This to me seemed kind of pointless because just as the artist was starting up, their set would be over. Then again, it's hard to complain when a day long festival ticket only costs $35.
made a special appearance, and countless Fool's Gold merch was catapulted into the crowd which kept everyone pumped up throughout the day despite the blazing heat. For a party that started on a block in Soho, New York, half a decade ago, I would say that Fool's Gold has definitely made a name for itself in a short span of time. I definitely plan on taking another day off to kick it with them in the near future.
