Last Friday night Toolroom's head honcho flew in straight from Ibiza and made his debut at Output
in Brooklyn. Output is probably one my favorite venues in New York. It has everything that a club should, great sound, mixed crowd and plenty of dark corners to lose yourself in. Plus, in the summertime, the rooftop offers a break from the dance floor and spectacular views of Manhattan. Output also put this sweet playlist together of all the artists on lineup leading up to the event.
Mark Knight/Heather M at Output & Electrik Soul in Panther Room
I arrived at the venue right around midnight and the dance floor was already filling up. Heather M
had been enthusiastically grooving the club for the first few hours of the night. Around 1 AM Mark Knight
got on the decks and did not hesitate to get involved. Everyone flooded the main room, from the fans who traveled, to the locals who were just there for the regular Output vibes. The track that really got the crowd moving toward the beginning of his set was ‘Make Em Dance’ by Camelphat
, from there it was a non-stop party.
The overall energy was amazing. Although the nightclub was full to the brim, the layout always makes for a decent flow, where it never feels too full or too hot. The set picked up and took a deeper tech turn at times with tunes like ‘Circular Thing’ (Hot Since 82 remix) by Krankbrother
, 'Arise' (Original mix) by Victor Ruiz & D-NOX
as well as ‘Into My Life’ (Original mix) by Mark Knight and Prok + Fitch.
He also played some of his other tracks, including my favorite Bang! in collaboration with Alan Banjo.
The crowds excitement piqued and everyone went wild when he dropped Been a Long Time (Mark Knight remix) by Fog Vs Chus and Ceballos
As the night went on, he seamlessly progressed his set, with lighter and deeper ebbs and flows. Including remixes of 'Love Sweet Sound' by Groove Armada and 'What I Might Do' by Ben Pearce
to keep everyone on the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning.
The beauty of Output is that sound always takes center stage. Mark Knight's set was the perfect example of how the sound and the DJ craft blend in a perfect balance, to create a
unique experience. His ability to read the crowd and adjust his set to the differing energy levels is impeccable. It allows you to get lost in the night, on the dance floor and in the sound. It allows you to just dance; because this is Output and you know no one is watching you.
This Brooklyn crowd is always ready for more and we hope Mark Knight returns soon. You still have a chance to catch him in the U.S. this year on Groove Cruise Cabo in San Diego late October, EDC Orlando early November and in Los Angeles on November 23rd.
