Lane 8 could not have chosen a more apt name for his tour. 'Every Night' was the first Lane 8 track I came across and then I was hooked. He released his debut album 'Rise' on Anjunadeep which featured various artists including Lulu James, Solomon Grey, Matthew Dear, Patrick Baker to name a few.
A few months ago he released his track 'Fingerprint' on SoundCloud with a very descriptive explanation of the concept behind "This Never Happened" where he says, "At This Never Happened, we invite you into a space where the only thing that matters are the people in that room, the music and the magic that happens when those things interact. An event where the dance floor will be a phone and photo-free space. This experience we share together may, by 2016 standards, have never happened. But those who dare will always know - something special did happen here."
I unfortunately did not read the description so I had no idea what was in store.
My friends and I were standing in line to get into the Bluebird when I found out that they were going to put tape over our phone cameras. I was bewildered as to why they were doing that so I googled "Lane 8 tour" and stumbled upon an article where he explains how he wants his fans to get lost in the experience. I was still skeptical as to how many people would maintain the integrity of the concept.
We walked in just in time for Lane 8's set, I searched the room to see if anyone had whipped out their phone but no one did. Lane 8 played for about four hours where he was able to showcase not only his music but also that of other artists. It was hard to keep track of all the tracks he was playing, he did play his more recent work such as Fingerprint, Crush, Divina and his remix of 'Strobe'. Halfway through his set they released balloons over the crowd and he transitioned into techno tracks which were well received by the crowd who started to lose themselves to the beats. He gradually eased back into melodic tunes playing notable tracks such as Diamonds, Undercover and Loving You.

As the night was coming to an end, I looked around and noticed people were not only interacting with the music but also each other. It truly felt like everyone was living in the moment, not a single person seemed like they had to snap a picture of what they were seeing. The crowd was experiencing the concept behind "This Never Happened". This was easily one of the most introspective and raw musical experiences I have ever had. Lane 8's tour is definitely one you don't want to miss!
