Hurricane Patricia was Something Wicked

This review for Something Wicked might be the easiest thing I've ever had to write... here's the review: [caption id="attachment_35894" align="aligncenter" width="720"]hurricane patricia scott kelly picture Something Wicked Scott Kelly caught a pretty good glimpse at why Something Wicked didn't happen.[/caption] It didn't happen. Due to Hurricane Patricia being the largest recorded hurricane, and over 12 inches of rain Saturday and Sunday, Disco Donnie Presents and Nightculture had to cancel both days of Something Wicked because of flooding issues. Many attendees ripped Something Wicked and DDP a new one about canceling the event, but plenty of people understood why and tried their hardest to combat the negative comments. With the event canceled and rain still pouring outside, what were the attendees supposed to do? Figure out the afterparty situation and who will be playing, of course. Saturday The official afterparty for Saturday at Stereo Live was the place to be. Seven Lions was the original headlining act and after a little blue bird told me that Above & Beyond was working on something special, I knew I had to go. Stereo Live sold out in minutes and here's the reason why: 10:30 - 11:30 Claptone 11:30 - 1:00/30ish Above & Beyond 1:00/30 - 3:00 Seven Lions [caption id="attachment_35895" align="aligncenter" width="720"]above & beyond Something Wicked Photo Stereo Live Houston Jono & Paavo brought Group Therapy to Houston in the rain.[/caption] No, that isn't a dream lineup, that was the actual lineup for the afterparty. Claptone opening the night with deep techno from "Charmer" before Jono and Paavo brought some Group Therapy to Houston for the night. After seeing Tony in Dallas for the We Are All We Need tour, I can finally check off that I have seen all three members perform. Club edits of "Peace of Mind," "Black Room Boy" and "Sun & Moon" filled Stereo Live with peace and love while uniting the crowd with new Andrew Bayer music, "Walter White" with the EDC Bryan Cranston edit and of course pushing the button with "Blue Sky Action." [caption id="attachment_35896" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Seven Lions Something Wicked Houston Stereo Live Hurrican Patricia was no match for Seven Lions. He obliterated the winds, rain and the storm at Stereo Live.[/caption] Seven Lions took the stage after Above & Beyond for a melodic bass set for the ages. Crushing the stage with "Strangers," "Don't Leave," and a phenomenal remix of "Satellite," Seven Lions had the entire crowd going wild. The vibe was electric and the weather brought everybody closer as the afterparty was good consolation for the rained out Day 1. Sunday Waking up Sunday morning hopeful for Something Wicked to happen, Instagram pictures surfaced of the condition of the park... it was clear that Day 2 would be washed away. A foot of standing water on the event grounds kept the attendees at bay and again, the fans scrambled to find afterparties to fill Sunday with as much music as possible. One afterparty featured Tritonal’s and Cash Cash’s Untouchable Tour with Jordy Dazz and others. Something Wicked added multiple afterparties featuring Botnek and Peking Duk, another with Mr. Belt & Wezol, while Green Velvet and Layton Giordani made an appearance at Jet Lounge to bring the Techno to Houston, even if Drumcode couldn’t make it. I made my way to Tritonal and Cash Cash and it may be a simple answer but, the vibe was electric. Tritonal brought the stage to a new level with countless Progressive House and Progressive Trance tracks grabbing everyone into their Tritonia/Untouchable Tour vibe. Throwing out foam triangles, the Austin, Texas duo threw the crowd into a frenzy as Cash Cash came onto the decks to finish out the night. [caption id="attachment_35897" align="aligncenter" width="705"]Tritonal Untouchable Tour Something Wicked Houston Stereo Live Confetti is a staple at Tritonal concerts[/caption] The crowd was electric, sang along when they weren’t screaming in joy and Stereo Live officially closed Something Wicked out, or at least what was left of it. But where and what is Disco Donnie Presents going to do? Refunds? Disco Donnie Presents and Nightculture released refund information Monday night and you can read it in its entirety here. If you want the shorthand…

Although Something Wicked may not have happened, Disco Donnie Presents and Nightculture did a good job taking care of the situation. Calming nerves by posting precautions before the storm came, ample knowledge of the unfortunate canceling and working on providing fans with plenty of choices of live music instead made the best out of a bad situation. Although, Something Wicked may not be raking in the cash this time, it seems that Disco Donnie Presents and Nightculture has escaped the weekend waterlogged, disheartened but still alive and well.
