What Los Angeles lacks in falling leaves and mulled cider, we make up in parties to celebrate Halloween. And since the weather is still nice deep into October, an influx of visitors wishing to warm their Playboy-bunny tails come in to celebrate. Haven't made your plans yet? Here is your guide for Halloween week's best electronic music parties in Los Angeles.
Tuesday, October 24, 2017 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., Pattern Bar, Downtown
Temple Tuesdays Presents : Vago and Friends
While not technically Halloween-themed, Temple Tuesdays has been bringing steady talent on this typically ho-hum weekday. The current home of Temple Tuesday is the downtown staple Pattern Bar. The artistic/low-key-but-upscale vibe lures devotees to underground music. You won't find these DJs overselling- they just over-deliver. The party starts at 9 p.m. if you have work in the morning. But don't blame us if you you stay until 2 a.m.
Wednesday, October 25, 2017 10 p.m. to 3.am, Couture, Hollywood
Clinic x Minimal Effort Pre-Party: Monolink (Live)
A pre-party for the massive Saturday Minimal Effort party, it's free entry for ticket holders and starts at 10 p.m. If you haven't seen the singer-songwriter/electronic music producer, don't miss it. His set at Lightning in a Bottle was one that memories are made of. Many times a live act doesn't quite live up to their mastered mixes, but in this case, his does. It will be packed, so get there early to experience the magic.
Friday, October 27, 2017, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., Couture, Hollywood
Unity presents Monster's Ball feat: DJ Sneak
The theme "I'm a Housecat Halloween Gangsta" features the original house gangsta DJ Sneak. Costumes are required! This will a be a party for all the jackers. If you are too cool to dance, then don't bother. A little ghetto tech, a lot of classic house, and a full floor will be ready to set off your weekend proper if you want to stay central.
Friday, October 27 and Saturday October 28, 2017 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., National Orange Show Event Center, San Bernadino
Escape: Psycho Circus
If you're a newcomer to deeper sounds, or prefer more mainstream EDM or offshoots of house or techno like hardcore or jungle, Psycho Circus gives you quite a sampling. The event packs in everything from trance to techno to masked-bro house acts like Marshmello, so if you're in a group with different tastes this may be the way to go. This mega-event runs 2 days, and 10 hours each day. Artists include Afrojack, Baauer, DJ Tennis, Duke Dumont, Eric Prydz, Lauren Lane, Marshmello, Skream and Tiesto. San Bernadino is over an hour outside of central LA- if you plan on going, allow 2 hours for traffic and extra time for entry. Its also recommended that you sort out accommodations near the event as early as possible.
Saturday, October 28, 2017
The prime day for Halloween parties, has no shortage of environments and excellent acts to see.
Minimal Effort: All Hallow's Eve: 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. ENOX Events, East of Downtown
If there's one thing we know about Minimal Effort, its that they know how to choose a lineup. The choices are slightly under the radar, while still being musically friendly to those who are dipping their toes into the world of deep. The line-up includes international favorites like Lee Burridge, Claptone and MK interlaced with niche or growing talent. There remains a uniting feel of sexy, melodic but driving music with slight variances to prevent monotony. No dark and driving techno here. The new venue looks like it may solve New Year's difficulties with capacity, which could bring back loyalty to the brand. We're sure looking forward to the open-air portions and the lounges within the party.
Minimal Effort: All Hallow's Eve Lineup
Venice Gets DEEP Presents: "DEEP FREAKuencies" Halloween Party: 9 p.m. to ???, The Collective HQ, Venice
Local bright spirit and deep guru Marques Wyatt just announced a party on the West Side, and although the line-up has yet to be announced, DEEP Events never disappoints. The crowd is always grinning, and the sound is on point thanks to Subtract. Doom and gloom? Not a chance. You're more likely to catch Caspar the friendly ghost shaking his sheet and giving out hugs. Wyatt will go back to back with Patricio, and Big Cee will open. The crowd is heavily Burning Man influenced and no strangers to costumes, so I can only imagine the looks will be as appealing visually as the the sounds are aurally.
Blood Moon 4 Halloween Party: Tâches, Peace In Noise: 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., Lincoln Speakeasy, West Side
Deep Downunder Productions has been a valuable addition to the West Side scene. Their pool parties this summer gained a great word-of-mouth following, bringing underground pool parties without the attitude of Hollywood or DTLA. Their parties are ones where you tend to meet tons of great people, and there seems to be a more mature and together crowd. Their night parties take place at a speakeasy at the Custom Hotel, where the day parties are also held. The venue is super intimate, and feels like a more sophisticated version of a house party. If pushing through warehouses of crowds sounds like a nightmare, this is the party for you. They also have deals on tickets + room. DDP strives for a balanced environment and treat everyone like family. We're looking forward to this one.
Lets Get Weird! Midnight Lovers and Who is Jack present: 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., TBA, Downtown
Techno tourist who has seen all the acts listed before? In true underground fashion, this party offers an all-local line-up, in a TBA location downtown, and rocks until 7 a.m. If you'd like to explore the weirder side, you can let your freak flag fly. What else is Halloween for? We caught Dirty Dave's set at Sunset Campout, and if he is on the lineup, no musical slouches will be around.
Framework presents Loco Dice: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Sound Nightclub, Hollywood
Want something a little harder but within a more conventional club setting? This may be the show for you. The minimal veteran Dice is sure to bring some heat. Sound straddles the line of bougie Hollywood club and dancing mecca thanks to their bookings. There is a dress code, but its a lot more relaxed than some of the neighboring venues. We're also a fan of local Lee Wells, so make sure to get in early to secure your spot on the dance floor and take in some LA sounds.
Morgan Page: Halloween Weekend at Create, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Create Nightclub, Hollywood
If hands-in-the-air progressive EDM is more your style, and the bottle service environment brings the fine hunnies you like, then Morgan Page at Create should be calling your name. Page continues to a well-recognized name years after his Deadmau5 collab days. While Deadmau5 has drifted into some interesting creative projects, Page embraced the trendy EDM sound you'll hear him in play in clubs today and on his podcast - quite a bit different from the haunting vocals of "Longest Road".
Sunday, October 29, 2017, 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier, Long Beach
Subtract On The Pier 022: YokoO & Death On The Balcony
Anton Tumas' Subtract on the Pier returns, just a week after having Danny Howells. Long Beach isn't usually the first place in L.A. you'd think about quality house music, but Subtract has set the standard, and made it easier for both L.A. County and Orange County music lovers to meet over the water to dance the day into night. Again, this isn't a Halloween-themed party, but I'm sure we'll see plenty of people continuing their revelry from the night before. YokoO makes regular stops in L.A. and delivers melodic house that wows every time, and Death on the Balcony add an eerie twist to deep grooves that will have you feeling sexy and spooky at the same time.
Tuesday, October 31, 2017, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., Sound Nightclub, Hollywood The Mask of Rhonda w/ Guy Gerber, Lovefingers & Heidi Lawden
Haven't gotten enough yet? Caught up on sleep on Monday? If you prefer naughty and seductive pansexual partying to handing out candy to little ones, Sound and A Club Called Rhonda present Guy Gerber. If you're a prude, this isn't the party for you. ACCR draws an artistic and fashionable crowd, so be ready to bring the costume heat.
