Trying to get your festival-freak on this Halloween weekend? React Presents
' Halloween-themed festival, Freaky Deaky
, is back! This year however, the event looks much different. The annual festival is now taking place as a series of shows across Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit and Ann Arbor. Fans will need to purchase individual tickets to their choice of the eight shows instead of a festival pass.
You Asked, React Listened
Initially, fans were worried about a weak lineup especially after a late announcement, but the list of performing artists this year is really quite impressive. Before the big drop, rumors flooded Facebook posts but two names really stood out among others. Fans wanted to see Griz return to the Midwest since he didn't make a stop in Chicago on his current "Good Will Continue" tour. Rumors also swirled around Bassnectar this year, especially with his success at Freaky Deaky two years ago.
React did deliver! Headliners this year include both GRIZ
, as well as Kayzo
, Dillon Francis, Oliver Heldens
, Gorgon City, Zomboy, and Cash Cash, with supporting acts such as Artifakts, MIJA
, Bleep Bloop, Drezo, and What So Not. Ganja White Night
and Opiuo were also added to the shows
in Milwaukee shows on October 27th and 28th. Have no fear fellow ghosts and goblins, take a look at the full lineup!
Fans Speak Out Over Changes
Fans posted in the EDM Chicago Facebook Group
under the 'Ruin a Festival in Four Words' post, shortly after React announced the big change. The page was soon flooded with tons of questions and feedback about the event's changes. When fans realized the festival was now a series of separate shows versus a two-day festival many were upset, frustrated and confused. Some complained they would no longer be able to see as many artists as they wanted to, walking from stage to stage catching diverse genres just yards from each other. Others mentioned they didn't want to go to 'another show at another venue' for Halloween.
Some were very supportive of the changes and with good reasons! Ticket prices are now significantly cheaper over previous years. Crowds at shows will also be more homogenous, as attendees will be selectively showing up for the artists they want to support and hear.
Additionally, now reaching guests in three different states, even more midwesterners can attend shows closer to them. Freaky Deaky has posted costume contests
, ticket giveaways, DJ contests and more on their Facebook page promoting the upcoming event. Perhaps one of the most important posts was regarding the importance of safe transportation. They even put out video on their Facebook page
to encourage guests to take Amtrak up to the Milwaukee shows. In addition to suggesting transportation for fans, Freaky Deaky has partnered with local hotels in Chicago and Milwaukee
that will offer partygoers group and discounted rates.
