Remember this name: Sirus Hood. It's one you'll probably hear a lot of in the coming months. The frenchman grew up in Paris and was surrounded by music at the young age of 10 when some older friends would give him mixtapes recorded in clubs. To him those clubs were like Disneyland. Flash forward a few years and he would begin to play gigs in Paris and create his own mixtapes. Sometimes childhood dreams come true after all. From playing gigs in France to now touring the world, Sirus Hood is one to keep an eye on in 2017. Lucky for us we were able to chat with him before he hits the road for an upcoming tour across North America with Sacha Robotti. Only The Beat: You have a pretty big North American tour coming up with Sacha Robotti. What can you tell us about the tour? Any cities you are particularly excited about? Sirus Hood: Yes,I'm so happy to do this incredible tour! We will be going to 16 different cities over a month and a half. I'm looking forward to playing again in Bang Bang San Diego and La Cave in Orange County, next to LA. I'm also looking forward to going to Las Vegas, I've always wanted to go there. sirussasha_poster_highres OTB: What was the song the originally got you into music? SH: The first track that made me enter the game was 'Jango' that I produced with Still Boyz. It stayed in the top Tech House chart of Beatport for months! OTB: What is the first concert/festival you attended that stands out in your memory and why? SH: Live Music & Friends in Brazil. Insane crowd and daytime parties. OTB: What does the music world need right now? SH: More quality, instead of quantity. More originals instead of copies. More fun instead of seriousness. OTB: Who are your top five artists? SH: Paul Johnson Green Velvet Eats Everything The Martinez Brothers Claude VonStroke OTB: What is something you've gotten into and gotten excited about lately? SH: I adopted a kitten, and I fell in love with him. His name is Monsieur Mignon, and he inspires me so much. More than I ever imagined. It sounds corny but I really think that cats are therapy and I want to adopt more. Every time I produce, he always comes on my desk and stays with me. How cute. OTB:  What is your pre and post show ritual? SH: Before a show I always sleep, even if it is for a few minutes. And after, I sleep again, but a few hours. haha OTB: Favorite food and where can we get it? SH: Favorite food is ice cream, I love Häagen Sazs, Magnum Almonds, and Chunky Monkey Ben & Jerry’s. Try to put your ice cream between two cookies, it's the best! I'm also crazy about Halal Guys food truck: Go to NYC on 53rd & 6th, and get a massive bowl with extra white sauce! Paradise. OTB: Who/what are you listening to right now? SH: DVSN - Too Deep, signed on OVO, Drake's label. This gives me chills. OTB: If you could collaborate with one person dead or alive, who would it be and why? SH: Paul Johnson. Thank god he is still alive. He is my biggest inspiration and I am so happy to have met him recently. Collaborating with him would be a true honor. OTB: What is the best piece of advice you've even been given? SH: To always believe in myself. Coming to where I am today was an impossible dream of mine. But it was my ultimate goal and I worked very, very hard to reach it. I was supported by loved ones that believed in me more than I did. Shout out to Danouch, Befa, Chouchou, MaoMao, Manu and other artists that you surely know: Shiba San, Amine Edge & DANCE, Ange Siddhar, The Mekanism, Erik Hagleton and many more. OTB: I love your latest track ‘I’m House’ with Roland Clark. What can you tell me about the track? Inspiration, creative process behind it? SH: Thank you. I was on my bike in Paris, day dreaming and this melody got stuck in my head. Then back at the studio I added the sickest drums and it turned out to sound great. Then I sent it to Roland Clark and he added his magical voice. And then I sent it to Barclay (Claude VonStroke) and he wanted it on Dirtybird. I absolutely love playing it and I really enjoy the reaction towards it. It is melodic and rhythmic at the same time.

OTB: What are you most excited for in 2017 (musically or otherwise) and why? SH: I'm very excited to tour all around the world this year, after the North American tour I will go to South Africa, then do a Brazilian tour, Australian tour, and a lot of other gigs in Europe. It’s in my plans to start touring in Asia, that's the only part I've never been to yet. OTB: What can fans look forward to in 2017 from Sirus Hood? New music? Collaborations? Anything else coming out on CUFF or Dirtybird? SH: Well 2017 will be very exciting for Sirus Hood. I will release an EP with Sacha Robotti for our North American tour. I just released a "I'm House" on Dirtybird, and it is in the top 100 deep house Beatport chart. I am very proud of the track that I will release in March on Ki Creighton's label "Under No Illusion". I will also release a massive EP end of April on Criminal Hype. And many projects are still in progress. I definitely hope to release more tracks on Dirtybird, and new labels. Stay tuned!
