His latest remix of Foster The People's 'Pumped Up Kicks' already has 10 million Spotify plays since it's release in September. The song itself makes us want to drive our convertibles down to the nearest beach to dance in the sun and sand. If only we could do that, Chicago winters are rough. The French producer and DJ recently made a stop in the Windy City's Aragon Ballroom, as part of React Presents' Freaky Deaky. We had the opportunity to chat with him about everything from Chicago pizza to new music.
Only The Beat: What did you think of Chicago? Klingande: Chicago is an amazing place to play, I love the people there and there is probably some of my best fans in US. Every time we come with the crew in Chicago it's full of energy and a real pleasure. OTB: Where do you like to hang out in the city? K: I love to hang out at the Millennium Park. There's everything to find some inspiration: art, nature, people, architecture and when I'm lucky a band playing at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. OTB: Favorite Chicago eats so far? K: I'm a big fan of local specialties, so whenever I'm around I go to Lou Malnati's to get the real deep dish Chicago pizza! OTB: How did you start as a musical artist? How did your name become Klingande? K: I start DJing first for small parties with my friend, at some point I wanted to play my own sounds, which pushed me to start producing. After one year in London I came back and started Klingande. I was inspired by the Swedish artists like Avicii and Swedish House Mafia. And I found 'Klingande' looking for Swedish words. OTB: What factors do you feel have contributed most to your success? K: Back in 2013 and 2014 it was definitely thanks to the booming blogs and YouTube channel. With the SoundCloud era, producers were able to share music instantly, and blogs were sharing to a wider audience. It was the push for 'Jubel'. OTB: What has been your favorite venue or festival to perform at? K: It's always difficult to answer to this question. I have had great vibes in so many places and countries. I always have a special feeling when I'm at Tomorrowland though. c78b414a-f5d4-4cd1-bcac-121d35f02dff Photo courtesy of Listen Up OTB: What is your dream festival to play or attend? K: Coachella definitely! OTB: What are you working on now? K: There is much more music coming! In the past months I took more time for music and created a balance between my touring time and my time in studio, so I hope I'll be able to play you more new stuff in 2018! OTB: If you weren't a producer, what do you think you would be doing instead? K: Maybe a magician, my first passion when I was a child! OTB: Where do you see yourself in 10 years? K: Hopefully the same, with maybe my own label. OTB: Never leave the house without? K: My phone. OTB: Favorite drink? K: White wine. OTB: Favorite food? K: Seafood. OTB: Console or PC? K: Console.
